at Townhouse Inge Gelaude, Ghent
10 September – 24 December 2025

Townhouse Inge Gelaude, a new platform for art and design in the private home of creative director Inge Gelaude (Villa Eugénie), opens its doors with the exhibition Sacralisation of Light, a presentation of new works by Belgian-Korean artist Kimy Gringoire.

Known for her sculptural jewelry brand, Gringoire expands her practice beyond adornment into large-scale sculptures, functional objects, and immersive installations. Sacralisation of Light marks her most ambitious project to date: a series of monumental light sculptures and design pieces that explore spirituality, intimacy, and the transformative power of light.

About the Exhibition

At Townhouse Inge Gelaude, Sacralisation of Light introduces a body of work in which light becomes sacred matter— not merely functional, but emotional, spiritual, and interactive.

Drawing on the fundamental forces of fire, wind, water, and earth, Gringoire sculpts light into forms that are both raw and refined, evoking the mystery of precious stones while celebrating craftsmanship. Materials range from ceramic and hand-blown glass to metallic finishes that shimmer like arteries of emotion.

Several pieces demand human participation to activate: a lamp illuminated only when coins are dropped into a bowl, a bookstand that lights up when a book is placed upon it. These ritualistic gestures transform daily actions into sacred exchanges — to give is to receive light.

Long central to her jewelry practice, the heart is here stripped of its sentimental connotations and reimagined as a pure design language. Through furniture-like objects (lamps, a chair, a sofa) and wall-sculptures, Gringoire reduces the form to essential curves and sharp lines, at times abstracted to near invisibility. The result is a set of works at once sensual and architectural, recalling the elegance of art deco while pulsating with emotional intensity.

The exhibition presents a constellation of six monumental sculptures and functional design pieces, alongside a series of smaller collectible works — including rings, miniature lamps, and collectible objects — presented in a dedicated boutique space.

For this exhibition, Gringoire collaborated with Belgian ceramicist Delphine Bekaert (Delfin Ceramics) and Belgian-Chilean artist Oscar Flores. Together, they crafted luminous objects in ceramic, glass, and metal, all entirely handmade.

About Kimy Gringoire

Belgian-Korean artist and designer Kimy Gringoire lives and works between Brussels and Paris. Trained in jewelry, she launched her own brand Kim Mee Hye in 2021, creating sculptural pieces at the intersection of jewelry and design. Her practice is anchored in the recurring motif of the heart, which she interprets as both intimate and expansive — a form embodying duality, tenderness, and strength.

In recent years, Gringoire has expanded her language into monumental installations and functional sculptures, most recently shown at MASA Gallery in Mexico City. With Sacralisation of Light, she continues to push the boundaries of scale and material, exploring how love and light can shape both objects and environments.
