PhotoBrussels Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with 52 exhibitions and more than 100 artists

From 22 January to 22 February 2026, the PhotoBrussels Festival — founded in 2016 by Delphine Dumont, Director of Hangar — celebrates its 10th anniversary. Over the course of one month, 52 exhibitions presented by contemporary art galleries, home galleries, art centres and museums will be on view across Brussels. A total of 120 artists, including 55 Belgian artists, explore the richness and diversity of a visual language deeply rooted in our time, engaging with an ever-growing and curious audience.

The Belgian scene in the spotlight in 2026

“This tenth edition of the PhotoBrussels Festival marks an important milestone in the history of a project born from a simple conviction: that photography deserves a central place in Belgium’s contemporary cultural landscape. Since its inception, the festival has set out to support creative practice, spotlight emerging talents and celebrate the richness of a particularly dynamic Belgian photographic scene, one that is open to the world.”
— Delphine Dumont

Ten years on, PhotoBrussels has established itself as a major European photography event, bringing together a wide audience each year around a programme that is ambitious, diverse and socially engaged. Through exhibitions, talks and collaborations with institutions, galleries and art schools, the festival has helped shape a true photographic ecosystem in Brussels — a city that has now firmly established itself as an essential cultural hub for contemporary image-making.

For this anniversary edition, 52 exhibitions are presented across the city, bringing together 120 artists, more than half of whom are Belgian, with three quarters residing in Belgium. This exceptional presence highlights the vitality of the Belgian photographic scene and the diversity of its actors. The exhibitions unfold across a wide range of venues — museums, galleries, art centres, alternative spaces and public locations — reflecting the richness and plurality of Brussels today: a creative, inclusive capital in constant transformation.

“This year, the festival also places a special focus on the new generation of photographers, whose freedom of vision and aesthetic boldness are driving the renewal of the medium. These emerging talents, alongside established artists, present projects that are resolutely contemporary and directly engaged with the issues shaping today’s world: social transformations, environmental urgencies, and questions of connection, identity and intimacy.”
— Delphine Dumont

Through these multiple approaches, the PhotoBrussels Festival bears witness to a vibrant, engaged and plural form of photography, capable of challenging our perceptions and fostering dialogue between cultures and generations.

Ten years after its creation, the festival continues to affirm its mission: to offer an open, unifying and ambitious platform in the service of artists and the public’s gaze.

At Hangar

The HOUSE — The Anonymous Project by Lee Shulman

The festival’s central exhibition, presented on the ground floor of Hangar, is dedicated to Lee Shulman (1973, London, UK; lives and works in Paris). The HOUSE, the first exhibition by Lee Shulman (GB, 1973)/The Anonymous Project, was one of the highlights of Les Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles in 2019 and has never been shown since. The Anonymous Project thus presents its first exhibition in Belgium. Conceived as a fully immersive experience, The HOUSE goes beyond the simple display of images by recreating the atmosphere of a 1950s home. The photographs are not merely hung on walls — they inhabit the space.

Family Stories — Group Show

On the first and second floors, Family Stories is a group exhibition bringing together seven projects that explore family relationships, featuring works by Cristóbal Ascencio, Lee Daesung, Deanna Dikema, Sanne De Wilde, Alma Haser, Francesca Hummler and Danilo Zocatelli Cesco.

The gallery space at Hangar will also present Le Royaume des moustiques by Sylvie Bonnot.

About PhotoBrussels Festival

Founded in 2016 at the initiative of Hangar, the PhotoBrussels Festival aims to bring together, over the course of one month, all enthusiasts, stakeholders and professionals of contemporary photography. Since 2022, a coordination committee has been established to oversee the organisation of the festival and to foster genuine synergy among the various participating venues. This committee is composed of: Atelier Contraste, box galerie, Contretype, L’Enfant Sauvage, Fondation A Stichting, Hangar and La Nombreuse.

The PhotoBrussels Festival is an event that positions Brussels as a key player on the international photographic scene and forms part of the European Month of Photography (EMOP), a network of festivals held in several European cities, including Berlin, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Paris, Vienna and Brussels. The festival attracts a local audience (Brussels-Capital Region), Belgian and international visitors (from neighbouring countries), as well as photography professionals, collectors, and visitors to art galleries and cultural centres.

The festival stands out for its focus on contemporary photography and its commitment to highlighting both emerging and established artists. It presents the work of Belgian and international photographers, offering a multicultural perspective and a rich, engaging programme for all audiences. Over the course of one month, the festival becomes a platform for exchange and the confrontation of ideas. A wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, workshops, talks and guided tours shapes the event, making it a must-attend rendezvous for photography enthusiasts.

By not limiting itself to a single exhibition venue, the PhotoBrussels Festival allows visitors to discover different facets of the city of Brussels while exploring photography. It thus offers a valuable opportunity for discovery for visitors and art lovers from around the world.
