Maison Prouvé 58 in Saint-Paul de Vence: an modernist icon where you can spend the night

Just a few minutes from the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Les Maisons CAB unveils Maison Prouvé 58, a remarkable example of modernist architecture designed in 1958 by Jean Prouvé and his son Claude. Meticulously restored and now available for guests to stay in, the house is nestled within the lush gardens of Clos du Père François, alongside a 19th-century Provençal farmhouse. Together, the two residences form a private estate, offering a rare opportunity to experience an exceptional piece of 20th-century architectural heritage in dialogue with the region’s traditional architecture.

Les Maisons CAB is a collection of holiday homes around the world, conceived by Fondation CAB, established by Belgian contemporary art collector Hubert Bonnet. Each property brings together contemporary artworks from the Foundation’s collection, avant-garde sculptures and furniture by iconic designers of the 1950s to the 1970s, creating unique spaces where art, architecture and design become part of everyday life.

Maison Prouvé 58

Meticulously restored, Maison Prouvé 58 embodies the pioneering approach of Jean Prouvé and his son Claude to modular construction, combining architectural innovation with the simplicity and functionality of modern living.

One of only five houses originally built, of which just three survive today, Maison Prouvé 58 is a rare example of French prefabricated architecture from the mid-20th century. Overlooking the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the house sits naturally within its Mediterranean surroundings, establishing a subtle dialogue between modernist design, landscape and local heritage.

Spanning approximately 125 m², the house is organised around a central corridor that connects the different living spaces. To the west, the private quarters comprise two bedrooms and a playroom, arranged around a centrally positioned bathroom. To the east, the kitchen, dining area and living room unfold around the fireplace, creating a fluid and functional living environment.

The interiors feature an exceptional selection of furniture by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, bringing together some of the most influential figures in 20th-century design. Carefully chosen to complement the architecture, these pieces preserve the spirit of the house while offering guests an intimate encounter with the history of modern design.

By bringing this architectural landmark back to life, Les Maisons CAB offers more than a place to stay: an opportunity to inhabit a piece of modernist history, where architecture, art and design come together in an exceptional setting.

By giving this remarkable architecture a new purpose, Les Maisons CAB offer a way of living within modern heritage, at the crossroads of architecture, art and design.

Le Clos du Père François

Maison Prouvé 58 forms a single estate with the neighbouring Clos du Père François, a traditional Provençal farmhouse dating from around 1850. Originally built by the Roux family, whose history is closely intertwined with that of the region, the farmhouse has been thoughtfully restored and transformed into an intimate collector’s residence. Set within 3,881 m² of landscaped grounds, the two houses create a dialogue between the architectural heritage of Provence and Jean Prouvé’s modernist vision.

Behind its historic stone walls, the farmhouse brings together Provençal architectural character and a carefully curated selection of historic and contemporary furniture. Natural materials, clean lines and considered details create a warm, understated atmosphere in which past and present coexist effortlessly.

The interiors are furnished primarily with pieces by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, whose contemporary designs establish a subtle dialogue with the farmhouse’s original architecture. Their geometric clarity, refined proportions and carefully chosen materials contrast with the historic stonework and generous volumes of the house. A chair by Joe Colombo adds another distinctive design accent, while artworks by artists associated with the French Supports/Surfaces movement, including Claude Viallat, Patrick Saytour, Noël Dolla and Jean-Pierre Pincemin, introduce a further artistic dimension to the interiors.

On the ground floor, a spacious living room with a fireplace leads to a dining room, a bar opening onto the garden and a fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs, three bedrooms provide comfortable accommodation, including a 48 m² master suite with a bedroom, study and bathroom.

Outside, the landscaped gardens extend the dialogue between architecture, contemporary art and Mediterranean nature. Facing the swimming pool, a monumental site-specific wall artwork by Claudia Comte becomes an integral part of the setting, its sculptural presence echoing the architecture and surrounding landscape.

Maison Prouvé 58 and Clos du Père François are rented exclusively as a single private estate, giving guests access to both residences, the landscaped gardens, the swimming pool and Claudia Comte’s artwork. Together, they offer a distinctive experience in which modernist architecture, Provençal heritage, collectible design and contemporary art come together in one exceptional setting.

Conceived as living spaces, these restored houses offer a direct and immersive experience of architecture, where carefully selected furniture and works of art echo the spirit of each place.

Each project is based on a rigorous approach: restoring the buildings in accordance with the original techniques, reintegrating them into a coherent environment and giving them a contemporary function. The CAB Houses extend the artistic experience beyond Brussels and Saint-Paul-de-Vence, transforming each room into a collector’s space where design, furniture and art interact with the architecture.
