Les Maisons CAB : ten exceptional holiday homes combining art and design

Les Maisons CAB, furnished with contemporary artworks, avant-garde sculptures, and furniture by iconic designers from the 1950s to the 1970s, are ten prestigious vacation homes around the world. Here, art is not just to be admired—it is meant to be fully experienced.
Created by Belgian collector and founder of Fondation CAB, Hubert Bonnet, this project reflects his passion for modernist and vernacular architecture from the 1930s to the 1970s. From Brussels to Paris, and spanning destinations such as the Dominican Republic, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, London, and Geneva, the ten Maisons CAB have been carefully acquired over the years and are located across Europe and the Caribbean. Each residence—from the modular Maison Prouvé in Saint-Paul-de-Vence to the Mediterranean retreat in Panarea—has been meticulously renovated in collaboration with renowned architects. Among them are Marc Corbiau, Louis-Herman de Koninck, Charles Zana, Christophe Gevers, Louis Vincent, and Jean-Jacques Honegger.
For the selection of furniture, Hubert Bonnet took inspiration from the expertise of François Laffanour, who introduced him to a 1944 demountable house by Jean Prouvé—a pivotal encounter in his appreciation of functional design. Les Maisons CAB feature pieces by iconic designers such as Jean Prouvé, Alvar Aalto, Hans Wegner, Charlotte Perriand, and India Mahdavi. As for the artworks that adorn each residence, they come directly from Fondation CAB’s collection. Some houses showcase site-specific pieces, such as Sol LeWitt’s wall painting at Villa Paquebot in Knokke or Mathis Bensimon’s fresco at Casa Bibi in Panarea, Italy.

Hubert Bonnet and Fondation CAB
In 2012, Belgian collector Hubert Bonnet decided to share his love for minimal and conceptual art by founding the Fondation CAB in Brussels. In 2022, he opened a second space in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France. These two nonprofit venues are dedicated to promoting both established and emerging artists. His collection, cultivated over more than twenty years, includes works by Carl Andre, Fred Sandback, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Charlotte Posenenske, Frank Stella, Dan Flavin, John McCracken, Jannis Schroeder, John Armleder, Alicja Kwade, Ted Stamm, Tony Lewis, James Capper, Erika Hock, and Ariane Loze.
In 2024, recognising the potential to extend Fondation CAB's artistic experience beyond Brussels and Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Hubert Bonnet decided to open Les Maisons CAB for rent. Initially private residences where the collector himself had lived, these homes are now transformed into living spaces, open to those who wish to immerse themselves in art and architecture. This project reflects the desire to preserve rare architectural heritage, ensure its longevity, and offer a new way of traveling.
