JAM Sonor opens its doors in the former MIMA building in Brussels
JAM and VOLTA’s new music hub brings together rehearsal and production spaces, concerts and artistic support
2 October, JAM Sonor powered by VOLTA opened its doors in the former MIMA building, along the canal in Molenbeek. Spread over four floors, this new music hub brings together rehearsal studios, shared production and workspaces, as well as a programme of concerts, listening sessions and events.
JAM Sonor was developed by JAM, known for its hotels in Brussels, Ghent, Porto and Lisbon, in collaboration with VOLTA, the Brussels-based music centre that supports emerging artists. Together, the two partners aim to meet the growing need for affordable, high-quality spaces dedicated to music-making in Brussels.
A new venue for the Brussels music scene
JAM Sonor aims to be much more than just a concert venue. Musicians can rehearse and produce music there, but also experiment, develop new collaborations and present their work to the public.
This opening is part of JAM’s broader ambition to open its premises to creative communities. Beyond simply offering a welcoming space, JAM aims to provide artists, designers and musicians with places to work, meet and develop new projects.
For VOLTA, JAM Sonor represents an extension of its work in providing artistic and professional support. For over seven years, the organisation has been supporting musical talent in Brussels and beyond, with a particular focus on the transition from emerging artist to professional artist engaged in a sustainable career.

About JAM Hotels
JAM is a network of hotels open to the city, with locations in Brussels, Ghent, Porto and Lisbon, and soon in Marseille and Rome. The project is driven by a collective of engineers, designers, creators, environmental experts and chefs. Inspired by the spirit of jam sessions, JAM devises unique hospitality projects where creativity, collaboration and experimentation take centre stage.
Rather than striving for perfection, JAM prioritises character. Authentic venues, carefully selected objects and passionate people create atmospheres where everyone is invited to meet, interact and feel at home. Environmental and social commitments lie at the heart of its approach, from the choice of materials and producers with whom the group collaborates, to the events it organises and the communities it serves.
JAM is a certified B Corp™.
Manifesto
We are not hoteliers, but a collective of engineers, designers, creators, environmentalists and chefs, inspired by the spirit of jam sessions, where creativity knows no bounds.
The world is our playground. We devise hospitality projects that think outside the box and offer a genuine alternative to the ordinary.
We create meaningful projects that address social and environmental challenges.
We firmly believe that the finest achievements are always the result of collective effort.
We also believe that without the freedom to experiment, there can be no innovation. And without innovation, there can be no progress.
About VOLTA
VOLTA is a Brussels-based music centre that has been making a lasting contribution to the development of musical talent, both in Brussels and beyond, for over seven years. A true hub for creativity and support, VOLTA supports artists at every stage of their journey and offers the public a high-calibre musical programme, complemented by a wide range of cultural activities.
VOLTA’s mission is to offer musicians, both literally and figuratively, the space they need to experiment. Through its rehearsal studios, artist residencies, and spaces for creation and performance, VOLTA places participation, creation, exchange and the sharing of knowledge at the heart of its work.
At a time when the conditions for musical creation are becoming increasingly precarious, both economically and socially, this support is more essential than ever.
Over the years, this approach has helped to bring numerous artists to the fore on the Belgian and international scenes, whilst also fuelling the centre’s production and performance activities. More experienced artists also find a space here to take a step back, reflect on their practice, experiment with new approaches and reconnect with the fundamentals of their work.
