In de tentoonstelling zullen werken uit Ogino's zwart-wit reeks 'Womb of the Myth' uit 2010/2011 te zien zijn. Deze reeks werd gefotografeerd op het terrein van een oude filmstudio in Uzumasa Kyoto (Japan), een van de laatste plaatsen waar de praktijk van traditionele Japanse ambachtslui in de filmindustrie behouden is gebleven. De voortdurende opbouw en afbraak van de gigantische filmsets - met alle decorstukken en props die daarmee gepaard gaan - op eenzelfde plek gedurende meer dan 60 jaar zorgde voor een soort simulacrum; op de plek heerst er een sfeer van het oude Japanse verleden, de goden en de toekomst.
Daarnaast zullen ook Ogino's meest recente werken te zien zijn, gemaakt met een van de oudste printtechnieken, de zoutafdruk op dun Japans washi papier. De zoutafdrukken zijn afkomstig uit verschillende reeksen, waaronder ook de reeks 'Skin' uit 2015. Met deze reeks trachtte Ogino om niet alleen een gevoel van aanwezigheid van een vrouwelijk lichaam te visualiseren, maar ook om een materialiteit te creëren door een rijke textuur in de print te verwerken die de kijker direct en diep raakt. Zijn andere zoutdrukken onthullen de sterke band die Ogino heeft met de Japanse mystieke tradities en religies.
Ogino groeide op in Tokio, waar hij werd geboren in 1975, en in Mexico. Hij studeerde af met een graad in de natuurkunde aan de Nagoya Universiteit, maar jaagde uiteindelijk toch zijn droom om fotograaf te worden na. Hij ging aan de slag bij een van de grootste reclamebureaus in Japan en besloot in 2006 om zich fulltime te richten op zijn carrière als zelfstandig fotograaf. In datzelfde jaar ontving hij de Grand Prix van de Unie van Japanse Fotografen. Hij nam deel aan Pingyao International Photography Festival in China in 2007, evenals aan het Tashkentale Fotofestival in Oezbekistan in 2008 en Taiwan Photo in 2011. Sinds 1998 stelde hij zowel solo als in groep tentoon in onder andere Mexico, de Verenigde Staten en Taiwan.

Ogino over zijn reeks Womb of Myth:
"I have been taking these photographs in the movie studio at Uzumasa Kyoto, Japan for many years. In this work I have been searching for the seismic zones where today’s myths are fashioned through the handy work and breathe of professionals. I wanted to turn away from the banks or the companies with computers, and toward someplace with the sense of sacredness, where craftsmanship still guides the imagination. I found this place. This is not anymore the center of a vital industry; it is almost the last place where the practice of traditional Japanese movie craftsmen remains. This last citadel is now sinking. In 2011, three studios disappeared, and the longest running traditional Samurai drama with 43 years of history was closed. But still in this place, I sense a gravity rising from huge stacks of used sets and their atmosphere.
All of this has become a kind of simulacrum, accumulating during the 60 years of recurrent construction and destruction that has played in the service of imaginal screens. What remains of the screenings, of the respiration of others is this simulacrum, this heap; this pile of the past that is at once empty and thick. What rests here, is more than the dust of storytellers, more than craftsmanship; what rests here is our ancient past, our gods and our future."
