Belgian gallery Sofie Van de Velde wins prestigious FEAGA innovation and creativity award at Art Basel
On the opening of the Art Basel fair, June 13th, the Belgian gallery Sofie Van de Velde was rewarded with the prestigious FEAGA INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY AWARD. For the 14th time the European Gallery Awards ceremony took place at the opening of Art Basel in the presence of Ernst Hilger, President of the FEAGA Award, Marc Spiegler, Global Director of Art Basel and the F.E.A.G.A. Board.
The European Gallery Award, founded by F.E.A.G.A. (The Federation of European Art Gallery Association*) was created to honour outstanding European galleries, make the work of galleries and their importance for art more visible and valued. The symbolic prize is an object, created by Leo Zogmayer with the words VISIBLE – INVISIBLE.
This year, in great respect for her creativity, new inspiration and exemplary cooperation, the Innovation and Creativity Award went to Gallery Sofie Van de Velde. Joost Declercq, Director of Museum Dhont-Dhaenens in Sint-Martens-Latem introduced Sofie Van de Velde.
Sofie Van de Velde opened her gallery in 2013 in Antwerp. She started her career at Gallery Ronny Van de Velde. During several years, before the opening of her own gallery, she has been coaching, teaching and doing research, following her studies Educational Sciences and Social Work. She believes in the importance of collaboration and networking. The gallery shows exhibitions of Belgian and international artists, in collaboration with a network of 20 galleries all over the world. She participates at Art Fairs in Brussels, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Rotterdam and Vienna.

Its members are the professional organizations in 14 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
