Be-Part Waregem presents a new solo exhibition by Rein Dufait
ginder de dingen, de dagen en de wolken by Rein Dufait, from 20 September to 30 November at Be-Part Waregem

Under the poetic title ginder de dingen, de dagen en de wolken (over there the things, the days and the clouds), Be-Part Waregem presents a solo exhibition by Belgian artist Rein Dufait, featuring almost exclusively new work — several series will be shown to the public for the first time. Created in his characteristic intuitive style, these compositions hover between reality and imagination.
At the heart of the exhibition is a series of recent works on cardboard, in which the boundaries between collage, drawing, assemblage, and painting dissolve. These images emerge through a tentative, searching process in which each layer responds to the one before. The result is a visual play of textures, shapes, and colours unfolding in a rhythm that is both spontaneous and deliberate.
Dufait operates as an artist on the intersection of sculpture, painting, and drawing. He works with a wide range of materials, including cardboard, sand, wood, plastic, plexiglass, acrylic resin, paint, and oil pastel. He approaches these materials not merely as building blocks but as active agents in a continuous process of response, construction, extension, and dissolution. His work arises from a direct dialogue with space, material, and time.
The studio plays a central role in Dufait’s practice: a place where action and observation coincide. Yet his work is not a closed-off world—it carries echoes of the outside. In his sculptures and paintings, we recognise traces of the everyday: forms that seem to refer to something familiar without settling into a fixed meaning. In this way, Dufait creates a hybrid visual language in which paintings become objects and objects gain painterly qualities. Everything moves—except reality itself, which remains as a still point of reference.
The exhibition’s title functions as a poetic compass. ginder de dingen (over there) refers to looking, to what presents itself and becomes visible. de dagen (the days)brings in the aspect of time: the construction of the work, its rhythm, layering, and the traces of time. de wolken (the clouds) finally evokes the fleeting, the intangible—the space of imagination.
With ginder de dingen, de dagen en de wolken, Rein Dufait invites the viewer to slow down and revalue the seemingly ordinary—materials, forms, rituals, and the things that surround us every day.
The exhibition is accompanied by a new publication, In de verte - de lucht, a collection of works from 2018 to 2025, published by MER.

About Rein Dufait
Rein Dufait (b. 1990, Ostend) is a versatile artist that works with a wide range of materials such as cardboard, sand, wood, plastic, plexiglass, acrylic resin, paint, and oil pastel. He combines and assembles these elements intuitively, guided by his own internal logic. Inspired by structures, materials, colours, and constructions in his immediate surroundings—such as his studio—Dufait blurs the boundaries between sculpture, painting, drawing, and collage.
Rein Dufait studied sculpture at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent and was a laureate at HISK in Ghent. Since then, he has built a consistent and idiosyncratic trajectory, with exhibitions both in Belgium and abroad.
In recent years, his work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Convent and AYNITL in Ghent (2024), Loods 12 in Wetteren (2024), and Garage Neve (2023). Earlier solo shows include presentations at the Roger Raveel Museum and De Garage in Mechelen (2021), the Permeke Museum (2020), Kunsthal Gent (2019), Galerie Sofie Van de Velde (2018), Mu.ZEE (2015), Galerie Tatjana Pieters (2011 and 2014), and Galerie Triangle Bleu (2012).
In addition to his solo exhibitions, Dufait has participated in numerous group shows, both nationally and internationally. In Belgium, his work was recently shown in A 'pro pos IV (Schönfeld Gallery, Brussels, 2024), Enlightened Fountains Pt. 2 (Emergent, Veurne, 2024), Eyes of Hands (Club Solo, Breda, 2024), Décroissance-Erntedankfest (LLS Paleis, Antwerp, 2023), Rein & Roth (M HKA, Antwerp, 2020), and Highlights for a Future (S.M.A.K., Ghent, 2019).
Internationally, he took part in Eyes of Hands (Club Solo, Breda, 2024), A.FAIR (Gallery Cosar HMT, Düsseldorf, 2017), FRASS (a duo presentation with John Wallbank at Arcade, London, 2013), and Dublin Doubles, voorkamer(Broadcast Gallery, Dublin, 2013).
