Be-Part Kortrijk presents a solo exhibition by the Belgian artist Ria Bosman

Ria Bosman: Op het ritme van de stilte, from March 23 to June 9, 2025, at Be-Part Kortrijk

Be-Part Kortrijk presents a solo exhibition by the Belgian artist Ria Bosman. The exhibition at Be-Part Kortrijk features works from 1979 to 2025, including several pieces that have never been shown outside her studio before.

Ria Bosman (1956, Beveren-Waas) is captivated by color and material. Her abstract body of work spans a wide range of creations, including sketchbooks, working journals, works on paper, textile paintings, tile and object paintings, as well as monumental leather and textile structures. Her art navigates the intersection of textile and painting, with a strong emphasis on the latter. A recurring theme in her work is a systematic exploration of the effects of color: on form, on other colors, on different materials, and the surrounding space.

Her woven monumental works have a physical and emotional impact on the viewer. She uses natural materials such as flax and leather. Found objects like placemats, sisal mats, remnants, and flax are used as a painterly medium.

Using color (for a long time, Ria Bosman worked with subtle color differences, but in recent years, stronger contrasts have appeared), rhythm, harmony, and balance, she reaches a point of absolute beauty that touches the viewer. Her works can be perceived as mental spaces conducive to silence and contemplation, driven by a desire for spirituality.

Despite the intrinsic qualities of Ria Bosman’s work, international breakthrough has been slow in coming. Female artists, in a (art) world dominated by men, have faced—and often still face—difficulties in securing their place.

Ria Bosman’s work is part of major international collections, including S.M.A.K., the Jorge M. Pérez Collection in Miami, as well as the Juan Carlos Maldonado Collection in Miami and Madrid.
