August Antwerp welcomes summer with a renewed culinary vision and a unique experience in the heart of its urban gardens
As summer approaches, august Antwerp unveils a refreshed culinary vision that perfectly reflects the season: fresh, contemporary and accessible, with a strong emphasis on vegetables, seasonal ingredients and authentic flavours.
Chef Pieter Starmans, who led the kitchen when august first opened and earned an impressive 15/20 from the Gault&Millau guide, along with the title of Best Newcomer, returns to the place where he helped shape the property’s culinary identity. With its serene inner gardens and the distinctive character of its former Augustinian chapel, august once again confirms its status as a green culinary oasis in the heart of Antwerp.
Over the past seven years, august has evolved into far more than just a hotel. Today, the property features 44 guest rooms, a restaurant, an impressive bar, a spa and two tranquil urban gardens where guests can enjoy lunch, dinner or an aperitif throughout the summer in a relaxed and refined setting.
This versatility is also reflected in its dynamic culinary offering. Alongside the many events hosted in the gardens and the iconic bar located in the former chapel, the restaurant has grown into a fully fledged gastronomic destination where sophistication and accessibility go hand in hand.
Chef Pieter Starmans is helping shape this renewed culinary direction with a cuisine that embraces freedom, simplicity and experience. Rather than offering a fixed, extensive multi-course concept, the restaurant presents a flexible formula that allows guests to dine entirely at their own pace, choosing à la carte dishes or opting for a three- or four-course menu.
The new summer menu follows the rhythm of the seasons and focuses on quality produce, terroir and authentic flavours, with vegetables playing a central role. Freshness, elegance and lightness are woven throughout the dishes. The cuisine highlights carefully selected ingredients at the peak of their season, combining technical refinement with recognisable and approachable flavours.
Alongside light and seasonal creations, the menu also leaves room for timeless classics — such as Dame Blanche and côte à l’os — which continue to define august’s culinary DNA.
Craftsmanship remains at the heart of the kitchen. Sauces, preparations and desserts are all made in-house, with meticulous attention to detail and product quality. This approach reinforces the pure and authentic experience that august stands for.
The bar also remains an essential part of the august experience during the summer season. Hotel guests and external guests can enjoy refined dishes and timeless classics inside the impressive chapel space with its soaring ceilings, or outside on the terrace overlooking the lush inner gardens.
With this renewed summer offering, august further strengthens its position as a contemporary destination where gastronomy, relaxation and architecture come together naturally.
