Adrien Lucca at the the Museum of the Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels

LMNO supports and co-produces a new installation exploring light, perception, and ecological change

LMNO Gallery is proud to announce the presentation of a new installation by Adrien Lucca at the Museum of the Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) in Brussels. The work, titled The Blue Hour, will be unveiled on 17 March 2026 and will remain on view from 18 March to 14 June 2026 as part of an exhibition developed in collaboration with GLUON and the institute’s scientific teams.

Represented by LMNO, Adrien Lucca is internationally recognized for his research-driven artistic practice investigating light, color, and perception. Through collaborations with scientists and engineers, his work bridges artistic experimentation and scientific inquiry, creating immersive environments that reveal hidden dynamics in the natural world.

With The Blue Hour, Lucca presents a living indoor garden illuminated by custom-designed LED systems that simulate twilight conditions. Developed in close dialogue with entomologists and researchers, the installation explores how nocturnal pollinators perceive light differently from humans. By alternating between carefully calibrated lighting states, the work reveals how insects rely on subtle color contrasts between flowers and leaves to orient themselves—and how these delicate ecological interactions can be disrupted by artificial urban lighting and LED pollution.

The installation transforms complex scientific research into a sensory and experiential environment, allowing visitors to observe living plants and understand the invisible effects of light pollution on pollinator ecosystems. Through this poetic yet rigorous approach, Lucca’s work encourages audiences to reconsider how human technologies reshape natural systems.

The project reflects LMNO’s long-term commitment to artists whose practices engage with the life sciences and environmental questions. Since its founding in 2016 by Natacha Mottart, Christophe Veys, and Olivier Legrain, the Brussels-based gallery has focused on supporting artists whose work creates dialogue between contemporary art, science, and broader fields of knowledge.

LMNO has played a key role in supporting and co-producing Lucca’s work, enabling the development of projects that require extensive research, technological experimentation, and collaboration with scientific institutions. The gallery continues to actively promote Lucca’s practice internationally and to facilitate the conditions necessary for ambitious interdisciplinary artworks.

Beyond exhibitions, LMNO also operates an artist residency program at Bois de Fa, a 6.5-hectare experimental garden in Grez-Doiceau. The residency encourages artists to develop research-based projects exploring the future relationship between nature and culture, reflecting the gallery’s broader vision of art as a space for critical reflection on ecological and societal challenges.

The presentation of The Blue Hour at the Institute of Natural Sciences highlights how artistic research can expand scientific understanding and public awareness of environmental issues. By bringing together artists, scientists, and cultural organizations, the project demonstrates the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration to create new forms of knowledge and perception.

In collaboration with le Centre culturel du Brabant wallon asbl and UCL Culture, the residency ( LLAV - LES LABORATOIRES ARTISTIQUES DU VIVANT) encourages artists to develop research-based projects exploring the future relationship between nature and culture, reflecting the gallery’s broader vision of art as a space for critical reflection on ecological and societal challenges.

About Adrien Lucca

Adrien Lucca (b. 1983, Paris) is a Brussels-based artist and researcher working with light, color, and living systems. His installations, luminous sculptures, glass works, and experimental environments investigate how light structures perception in both human and non-human worlds. Combining artistic practice with spectral research and technological experimentation, Lucca develops tools and installations that operate at the intersection of art, science, and engineering.

About LMNO

Founded in Brussels in 2016, LMNO is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to artists whose work engages with life sciences and cross-disciplinary knowledge. Through exhibitions, research support, and its residency program at Bois de Fa, LMNO fosters artistic practices addressing environmental, social, and scientific questions.
