A new interior for Paradis Apartment, the curated sea front apartment in Ostend

Paradis Apartment, the curated seaview apartment in Ostend that opened its doors last year as an inspiring place for design and art lovers, has changed its interior.
The 97m2 two-bedroom apartment sleeps five people and can be rented for short and long (holiday) stays, as well as for events, meetings and photo shoots. It is characterised by a carefully curated selection of design and art pieces, all of which are for sale. For this, Paradis Apartment collaborates with various makers, designers, artists, galleries and brands. As a result, Paradis Apartment is both a vacation rental and a curated space for the promotion of contemporary artists, designers and makers.
The new interior draws its inspiration from the North Sea. It emanates a refined atmosphere, punctuated by the changing shades of the Belgian sea - from grey to green, silver and blue. The design also plays on materials and textures: the warm softness of the carpets and wall lights contrasts with the coldness of the materials used for the mirrors, the kitchen island and the metal chairs in the dining room. The ceramic pieces, steel chairs and sculptural armchair in the living room add a more raw, organic dimension.
About Paradis Apartment
Paradis Apartment is a project by Albane Paret and Micha Pycke, founders of the PR and communications agency Club Paradis, specialising in art, design, architecture and hospitality. The idea to launch a curated holiday apartment where all the furniture, design and art is for sale grew out of their long-standing love for Ostend (Albane her hometown), the sea, design, art and hospitality.
Paradis Apartment is not a static concept, but a versatile, evolving and hybrid place. The flat serves as showroom, gallery space and holiday apartment, where the works and objects are put to everyday use, away from the sacredness of the whitecube.
An important aspect of Paradis Apartment is the notion of time and the setting in which one experiences the works: in an inspiring living context and a private atmosphere, with family or friends and without the gaze of strangers, the objects and artworks can be experienced over a longer period of time.
Every year, the interior of the apartment changes, so that there are always new objects, makers, designers and artists to discover. For this second interior, Belgian and international designers, artists, brands and makers, both established names and emerging talents, once again collaborated.
As an experiment in self-organization and a questioning of the spaces in which one can present design and art, the apartment refers to the early days of people like Leo Castelli, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Gavin Brown, who all started their careers in the art world by staging exhibitions and presentations in their own domestic places like their living rooms, kitchens, or even hotel rooms.
The new pieces in Paradis Apartment
The interior consists of unique and limited editions as well as timeless classics. The new interior presents Maarten Van Severen's legendary 'Blue Bench', a design from 1997 and still available through the Maarten Van Severen Foundation, in black. The bench with reclining backrest also serves as a room divider between dining room with kitchen and the living area. In the living room, we further find a grey hand-knotted rug by Muller Van Severen for cc-tapis, which plays with surfaces, texture and shadow; a white side table and low chair by Dutch-Belgian designer Linde Freya Tangelder (Destroyers/Builders) that strikes a balance between hardness and softness; a lounge and side table by Ana Kraš for her own brand Teget and a lounge chair with footstool by Nychair X. The vase on the coffee table is by Coseincorso and the wall lamp made of paper is another design by Ana Kraš for Teget.
On the mantel, a lamp sculpture by Linde Freya Tangelder (Destroyers Builders) stands next to a mirror by Amber Dewaele, bringing the reflection of the sea and the pier into the apartment.
The dining room table and chairs were designed by Atelier Thomas Serruys, and the totem in aluminium is a design by STACK. In the bedroom, we find a rack by Niels Raoul Boone, a sunset lamp by Amber Dewaele, night tables by vormen and a second wall lamp by Teget. The rug in the bedroom is a design by Luke Edward Hall for cc-tapis and the steel small rack on the wall is by Coseincorso. In the children's room, a minimalist mirror lamp by Amber Dewaele stands on a bedside table by Niels Raoul Boone.
For the artworks, Paradis Apartment collaborated with Sofie Steegen, who presents two of her latest ceramic works in the apartment. Steegen makes ceramic tile paintings and bas-reliefs, some of which can also serve as wall sconces. Eroticism, mythology, nature and the sea are important sources of inspiration for her.
